Nothing Is Irreversible
Piece: Nothing Is Irreversible 1/1

Fandom: Lost

Pairing: Jack/Kate

Summary: A study of Jack and Kate's final moments together, and the past memories that built up to them.

Nothing is irreversible.

With those words she wanted to remind him that somehow, there was always room for second chances, even though she hadn’t believed in them for years. She wanted to show him with her words that her hope to believe in second chances was vindicated when he took the plunge and told her he loved her, when the walls of self-preservation had crumbled; the day they called for rescue. Even though she had broken his heart through her actions, without saying a word. However, he would never abandon her (I will always come back for you) because the Jack that she knew was made up of forgiveness and reassurance and strength and faith… in her. He gave her his heart. She was already his.

I love you.

I love you.

Those conversations, when people tell you in that moment before you die, you see everything that ever mattered in your life, with her I love you spoken in the realization that she would, indeed, not see him again in this life, Kate saw, well, everything. Within the time capsule of a nano-second she saw the day she walked out of the jungle and saw him, standing there in the clearing. Because he had seen through her, and without any explanation, seemed to inherently know her better then she knew herself. It was as if translating the mystery of Kate Austen was an essential part of him (one that she was never able to solve).

So, yes, now Kate knew what it meant to see your life before your eyes before you passed on. Because, if he died, she died.

I’ve missed you so much.

“You see honey,” She speaks with a sense of sensitivity and her voice registers on a very soft note, her throat is so terribly constricted as she is hooked up to the ventilator standing by the hospital bed, with the cords dripping about her, that it is awfully hard to get the syllables out to form the desired words she wishes to endow to the person sitting to her left by the window.

“I’ve already lived. I’ve gone through my trials, I’ve made my mistakes, I’ve been devastated and I’ve been broken. But, I have also experienced joy and passion, and I’ve had a great love. You see, you do what you can to appreciate everything that is thrown your way, and when you have been to hell and back, you see things in their entire magnificence for what they are. Whether it is the unconditional love of another person, or a kind word from a friend. You cannot thwart death, it’s a tricky little thing that sneaks up on you, once and awhile even before your own time, and eventually you find yourself having to roll with it. And I’m not afraid to die.”

With those words, the girl at the window looks at her mother with such love and admiration, it radiates from her features. And she knows, without precedence, that she’s talking about her father. And, as a tear slips down her check as Kate arches her back ever so slightly and takes a deep breath, several words barely escaping her lips in nothing more than a whisper; “I’m going to him now.”

Author's Note:
So, basically this was how I imagined what would have been Kate's final moments, thinking about her line to Jack "I've missed you so much". I hope  you enjoyed it, being that this is my first ever Lost fic, and as it probably pales in comparison to some of the others out there. Maybe your reviews might prove me wrong. lol

Gurllllllllllllllllll, you need to write more.
This was very good.

I always thought Kate was pregnant with Jack's baby. Shit, if they gave us at least ONE more episode I'm sure we would have found out. lololol.

Very good for your first fic!

Aw, thanks so much!

IKR? I wish we had at least one more episode. They could have given Kate something of Jack's if she was living her life all alone. *cries again*
